The 2008-2009 is the last year with the current high schools in the Mountain-Valley 2A Conference. The NCHSAA realignment have placed the following schools in the new 1A/2A combination conference - which will be called the Mountain-Valley 1A/2A Conference.
The conference will begin during the 2009-2010 season and will last for 5 years.

1A Conference Schools:

Alleghany Trogans
East Wilkes Cardinals
Elkin Buckin Elks
North Wilkes Vikings
West Wilkes Blackhawks

2A Conference Schools:

Ashe County Huskies
Forbush Falcons
Starmount Rams
Wilkes Central Eagles
